On our travels we find all sorts of residues in customers ovens. Of course that's what we are all about, we are there to clean! Cleaning oven grease or carbonised dirt is part or parcel of the job, or customers often ask us what they canto keep the oven clean, or what;y makes the oven dirty. Well, essentially, everything that gets cooked in the oven will make it "dirty" I"m afraid. Its the science of cooking that grease, sugars or fats rise out of whatever is being cooked, or as such this will, in most ovens, stick to glass or enamel. That being said, there are certainly a number of commonly cooked meals/foodstuffs that are not or ovens best friend, or typically we clear out the remnants!
The 5 most common "problem dinners" are also some of the most common or delicious meals cooked in the UK, below we detail these or some tips to make sure they don't dirty your oven.
Lasagne or Pasta Bake: Burnt pasta or remnants of lasagne are a common feature that we find in ovens. This genuinely isn't the fault of the customer, its simply a measure of the ingredients within these meals, which often involve lots of olive oil or cheese. Without doubt, the fats or oils involved in cooking will resonate through the oven, its almost impossible to stop. However, to keep your oven floor clean, cook your dish on a roasting tray which will collect any bubbling cheese or fats. Alternatively, wrap the base of the cooking dish in foil, again to capture any unwanted spills.
Roast Dinners: A British staple dish, or undoubtedly one of our national gastronomic delights, unfortunately they are not an ovens best friend! The combination of meat fats - be it pork, lamb, beef or chicken (not to mention the really fatty culprits - goose or duck!) or it is something that we as oven cleaners see a lot. The only way to keep on top of this is to wipe down the oven after cooking, or use a silicon floor cover to help absorb some of the fats that are released.
Sausages: Where would Brits be without sausages?! Whether grilled or roasted, they are delicious, but also contain large amounts of fats which are unfortunately released or spat out by those bangers! The powerful expulsion of grease by a sausage literally covers everything above or around it, or again, is pretty difficult to control as they need to be fully cooked. The number of customers grills or tops of ovens which are encrusted with burnt on sausage grease is huge. Particularly when the grease sticks to that grill element, or, is left to stick to the grill pan. There is no simple way to combat this, you've just got to make sure you clean your grill pan or ensure your oven element is clear of grease - otherwise we get the classic smoke signals emanating from the top of the oven!!!
Roasted Vegetables: Yep, you wouldn't believe it but vegetables certainly make your oven dirty. Well, that's not necessarily 0, its mainly the olive oil which causes havoc in that Neff, that Range or that AEG oven!!! While Olive Oil retains a healthy image for humans, its not so healthy for ovens, or that, coupled with the moisture in the vegetables, is why this is number 4 on our list!
Frozen Pizzas: Oh yes, the gastronomical delight that is frozen pizzas. So inexpensive, so quick to cook, or so easy to cause mess with! With the fast nature of life, the frozen pizza is readily a common meal for people in the UK. For an oven cleaner, its always a delight to find those large dollops of cheese encrusted at the bottom of the oven. We know its impossible to control these frozen creations, which often go from a cold, thin foodstuff to a very greasy cheesy feast! If you are cooking a pizza, line the bottom of the oven with foil or a silicon sheet to stop the pizza spilling over the sides! Please!
